A Content Analysis of Counseling Outcome Research and Evaluation (CORE) from 2010 to 2017

ABSTRACT

In this study, authors reviewed articles published in Counseling Outcome Research and Evaluation from 2010 through 2017. Characteristics associated with authors (i.e., gender, setting, and domicile) and article characteristics (i.e., sample age, sample ethnicity, research paradigm, primary statistical analysis) were coded and analyzed. Professional implications and future recommendations are discussed.

Rochelle Cade

Rochelle Cade, PhD, LPC-S, is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Counseling Department at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Dr. Cade's clinical experience includes assessment, and individual and group counseling in correctional settings. Her research interests include addiction and offender counseling, assessment, and counselors-in-training.

Sandy Gibson

Sandy Gibson, PhD, is an Associate Professor and the Clinical Coordinator of Counselor Education at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). Dr. Gibson was an addiction counselor for 5 years, followed by working 7 years at a research institute focusing on addiction prevention and treatment research prior to her arrival at TCNJ. Her research interests include natural recovery, decriminalization, and comparative international drug policies.

Karrie Swan

Karrie Swan, PhD, LMHC, LPC, is an Assistant Professor of Counselor Education at Eastern Washington University. Dr. Swan has worked with children and adolescents in both agency and school settings, specializing in child-centered play therapy. Her research interests include play therapy for children with disabilities and the teacher–child relationship.

Kristina Nelson

Kristina Nelson, PhD, NCC, is an Assistant Professor of Counselor Education at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. Dr. Nelson has worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families in a variety of settings, specializing in counseling survivors of traumatic events. Dr. Nelson's research interests include trauma, child abuse prevention, and posttraumatic growth.
