Step-wise sulfurization of stable 1,2-bis(ferrocenyl)diphosphene

Sulfurization reactions of a stable 1,2-bis(ferrocenyl)diphosphene, Fc′P=PFc′ (Fc′=2,5-bis(3,5-dimethylphenyl)ferrocenyl), with elemental sulfur (S₈) were examined. At the first stage of the sulfurization reaction, the corresponding thiadiphosphirane derivative was obtained. It was found that further sulfurization afforded the corresponding 1,3,2,4-dithiadiphosphetane-2,4-disulfide derivative, dithioxophosphorane dimer. Structures of both heterocyclic compounds containing sulfur and phosphorus atoms were revealed by X-ray crystallographic analysis.
