The basic idea of this study and its material were drawn from two types of retrospective investigation. During the course of one, which lasted four years, I recorded my dreams for specific periods, using a particular technique. During the course of the other, lasting two years, I collected and recorded my inner thoughts, feelings, series of ideas, and images that are typically called daydreams, wandering thoughts, and associations going off at a tangent.
