Recommended Self-Help Books for Families Experiencing Divorce:

A Specialized Form of Bibliotherapy

The use of self-help books in clinical practice is a specialized form of bibliotherapy. This article provides a brief overview of the history of self-help books in clinical practice and information on the professional groups likely to use books in treatment. The author presents practical clinical applications for using self-help books in clinical practice. It is suggested that self-help books can be viewed as a useful technique that compliments a managed care approach to mental health. The article includes examples of books that practitioners will find useful for helping families deal with divorce.
