Sherrie Tucker

Sherrie Tucker is a jazz journalist and a Ph.D. candidate in the History of Consciousness at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is the author of Changing the Players, Playing the Changes: “All-Girl” Bands During World War II (Durham: Duke University Press, Forthcoming). This article won the Oral History Association's 1998 award for outstanding use of oral history in an original article. It is reprinted here with permission from Women & Music, Vol. 1 (1997): 12–23.
