Women and AIDS

Implications for Occupational Therapist

This article examines the special issues which confront women with AIDS. The population of women with AIDS is described and differences in the course of the disease between women and men are briefly explored. The pyschosocial responses of women with AlDS are reviewed with respect to considerations of stigma, informational needs, economic impact, psychological responses and social supports. Lastly, the role of occupationa therapy is described as it relates to enablin and empowering women with AIDS to perform daily activities an role obligations and to achieve terminal occupational goals.
