Mu'tah University is one of the premier undergraduate institutions in Jordan, with an educational mission that focuses on providing the country with highly trained specialists in the fields of science, technology, and the arts including education. The current study attempted to answer two questions: (1) To what extent does the achievement level of education students at Mu'tah University vary as a function of student background variables such as family characteristics (family size), parental education, prior academic background of students as measured by an exit test for secondary school (TAWJIHI), and sex? (2) What factors do education students believe are responsible for the level of achievement by education students at Mu'tah University? The results showed that there is an interaction effect between mother's education and father's education, and father's education and the sex of the student on the student's grade point average (GPA). A revised student questionnaire following factor analysis showed that the lack of family support for a student is the main factor behind a low level of student achievement (GPA).
