Abstract

A high-volume (27-cfm) electrostatic precipitator survey sampler is described. It collects air-borne particles of all sizes with high efficiency on a tube 154 inches in diameter and 12 inches long. The unit consists of a five-pound sampling head containing the electrodes and air mover and a high-voltage power supply weighing six pounds. The sampling head can be hand-held for breathing zone sampling, or the two parts can be clamped together and tripod-mounted for fixed-position sampling. The sampler can be used with a cyclone precollector, without a significant flow reduction, for respirable dust sampling.
