Abstract

The mechanism for Newtonian creep in polycrystalline ice has been studied. It is shown that the creep can be explained by dislocation glide along the basal plane with a constant dislocation density. The experimentally determined creep-rates agree well with the values calculated using Cole's constitutive model based on dislocation glide.
