On June 27–29, 2011, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory hosted more than 100 attendees for the National User Facility Organization (NUFO) annual meeting. The participants explored a range of topics that users of science facilities—such as the synchrotron light sources—encounter as experimentalists. The topics included facility best practices, various ways of educating the public and government about the user facilities' role in advancing scientific discovery, and how to make communication with universities and other organizations representing users, user facilities, and science in general most effective.
