Abstract

This article considers the current situation in Bangladesh and the natural, economic and political challenges which it faces. Can a country of 150 million people join the middle-income group in just a few years? Maybe. The economy has been growing at about six per cent for the last few years on the back of new export industries and the e country's giant Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs), like Grameen and BRAC, the world's largest NGO have been dramatically successful .If the Awami League government elected at the end of 2008 can successfully tackle the infrastructure bottlenecks and meet the challenge of global warming then the prospects are promising.
